Ace the Crow
RESIDENT SINCE 2016
Ace has been at CWR since she was a baby. She had a broken leg and a broken wing and had imprinted on people, a phenomenon where social animals form their identity around the species that they encounter during early development. Ace was unable to regain full use of her wing after treatment, rendering her non-releasable into the wild. She became an ambassador for CWR and a foster parent for young crows. She enjoys causing chaos! She will steal coins from out of your purse and she can mimic a chicken perfectly.

Forrest (Back) & Jenny (Front)
RESIDENTS SINCE 2022
Forrest and Jenny are mates. They grew up together at the rescue. Forrest hatched with a congenital issue that made her first few weeks of life hard. When she finally pulled through, Forrest beamed with a newfound energy, exploring and running as fast as her little webbed feet would allow (hence the name)! Jenny was found dumped at a pond when he was still a small gosling. The two were introduced at the same age and have been inseparable ever since. Their rescue momma Melissa spoils them silly and they are loved! You can always find them talking with volunteers under the pecan tree. Forrest & Jenny have their own Facebook page; follow to get weekly updates of photos and videos here.

Zeke & His Ladies
RESIDENT SINCE 2016
Zeke is the most charming bantam (mini) rooster around! At 1-foot-tall, his charisma led to him being a fan favorite at public events for many years. Plus, he’s popular with the ladies! Zeke now enjoys his retirement from the public eye surrounded by his flock of adoring hen wives. He was originally rescued by CWR after being found running down the road alongside traffic. He was lucky not to get hit! His luck has stayed with him all these years, as he remains a volunteer favorite.

Miss Annabelle
RESIDENT SINCE 2010
Miss Annabelle was rescued during a seizure case. She had been living in hoarding conditions with another goose named Lila. A judicial ruling almost placed Annabelle back in the hands of her previous owner, but luckily CWR advocated to keep her, and she’s been safe ever since. She bonded with a goose named Pringles and they were mates at CWR until Pringles’ passing. Now, Annabelle and fellow resident Mr. Seb keep each other company.

Mr. Seb
Mr. Seb was originally dumped at a lake with his sister. Mr. Seb and his sister were rescued by CW and then adopted, but Mr. Seb became depressed in his new home, so he returned to the rescue. At the rescue, he joined a family headed up by the goose Pringles, a beloved CWR resident. After Pringle's passed away, Mr. Seb and Pringles’ mate Annabelle carry on the family.
-
Jonas
RESIDENT SINCE 2021
Though Jonas is a domestic Blue Slate turkey, he is also one lucky duck! He was found wandering away from a poultry farming facility. A young family recognized that he needed saving and brought him to CWR. Jonas has made it clear from the start that he's more interested in people than his avian counterparts. If he's not following you around like a puppy, then he's waiting patiently by the back door for a new friend to come through. Here at CWR he will be free to live out the long life he deserves, surrounded by friends and family who love him. Consider joining his fan club and sponsoring this sweet boy who brings so much joy to those around him.

A Note on Animal Residents…
We get many requests for visits or to present educational programs with an animal ambassador. This is a good time to share some information about CWR’s Resident Program, as it pertains to educational animals!
Due to regulation changes, CWR is unable to take avian residents out for programs. We are working on getting licensing to continue providing interactive programs with the public. Currently, our resident animals educate the public and promote environmental awareness solely through educational campaigns shared online on our social media, in the news, or through other digital formats.
Any wild species that you see listed above is not a pet. They are animals determined by our vet to be non-releasable. An animal may be deemed non-releasable because of a medical or physical disability that would hinder survival in the wild. CWR utilizes several large properties where the environment is safe for non-releasable wildlife to live and they can receive supplemental feeding as needed.
It is illegal for any person, other than a state appointed rehabilitator, to care for injured wildlife. A federal Migratory Bird Permit is required to keep/house non-releasable avian wildlife. This is a lengthy and expensive process that takes time, money, and patience. To obtain a permit from U.S. Fish and Wildlife, at least 100 hours of hands-on rehab experience is needed, gained over the course of one year minimum. Permits are renewed annually. CWR takes care to meet federal standards and accommodate animals in a safe and secure environment.
