We have received the following information from someone in indian trail. This is not our rescue or our volunteers. Please help us find who this person is. There is a sticker on the back of the truck.
Couldn’t get a good pic as they sped away. But I work in the Sun Valley area. By the movie theater, there is a small pond where geese live and nest. I feed them every morning. Well today a white man and woman in the black truck pictured below pulled up by the CVS, got out of the truck and starting chasing/picking the baby geese up by their feet and throwing them into their truck, I ran outside asking what the **** they were doing, they claimed to be from a fowl rescue, as I continued questioning the hopped in the truck and sped away. I looked up this so-called rescue, and there was nothing. They only took the babies. The police were called, partial plates given… they said if we saw them again to call the police again so we could trespass them because what they did was illegal.
The mother goose is walking around our parking lot honking like crazy, seems lost and confused. If you see these people in the Sun Valley area again, please call the police.
It really isn't up to us. It's up to the community to decide how much help we can give. We rely on generous animal lovers to support our work. We can't do it without you.
The cost of everything has gone up. Some of our feed bills have increased sixty percent, but the donations have not increased. So we have to limit our intake so that we can stay within our budget.
We've reduced onsite animals, rehomed some educational and resident animals, and cut staffing. It wasn't enough. We are at capacity for what we can afford to rehabilitate. We can only offer more with your help. We get messages like these all day long. It's hard to see.
The biggest expense for baby season is mealworms. We need 1,000,000 of them every month to feed the babies. Our cost for those in bulk is $10,000 a month, and the money just isn't there.
This is the reality of rescue. So we have decided to try to get people just to donate meal worms off the wish liist if possible to help us offset the cost. If you can afford to buy some mealworms off the wish list, you will definitely be saving a baby bird.
The other thing you can do to help is volunteer. We didn't have the funds to hire a staff person to help with baby birds this year. So we have to limit how many birds we can take in because we are short on volunteer labor.
These are two things you can do to help now. If you can't do either, then please share this message and ask your friends and family if they can consider contributing.
Getting these messages every day, it's very heartbreaking for our staff. We know that there isn't any other place that can take the volume of songbirds that we have the facility for. We just need the resources and the funds to be able to continue this important program.
Right now, we have an incredibly generous matching program, so your donation will be doubled. Can you please help us help these birds?? As you can see by the fundraiser, we have a long way to go to meet our match.
The information for donating will be in the comments as well as the wish list details.
This guy passed away before getting to our clinic but I wanted to show his gorgeous ruby red throat.
Join us tomorrow (5/4) at the rescue! Open to the public. It’s our monthly volunteer project day, where we could use YOUR help on some handy projects around CWR. Tomorrow we’ll work on setting up fencing around some new pasture for the animals! Ages 16 and up. Volunteer paperwork available at walk-in. 5403 Poplin Rd. Indian Trail, NC 28079.
How do you take radiographs on an emu? Very carefully!
We are so grateful for the grant we received in order to purchase the XRay machine. CWR has made great strides in improving our patient care, and radiographs onsite mean that animals do not have to wait days to get into a veterinarians office.
Our system is portable, which means we can do radiographs onsite or travel offsite for livestock. We can also assist animal control or other facilities that need radiographs offsite for emergency or criminal cases if needed.
The next step is to finish the surgical suite. We already have the ability to do blood work and fecals, but our goal is to be able to do more complicated surgical procedures on site. Currently, surgical procedures are very costly to do at a veterinarians office. So completing the surgical suite here means that we can provide the care to the animals at a greatly reduced cost to the rescue and, in turn, our donors
We are constantly working to optimize the use of our limited funds. If you would like to contribute to helping us complete the surgical suite, please consider making a donation. Right now, we have a generous donor willing to match funds up to ten thousand dollars. Our work is only possible thanks to our generous supporters who care about animals.

(1/2) We at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue would like to take a moment to address recent concerns and criticisms that have surfaced on social media regarding our intake policies and handling of animal rescue requests. We deeply value the support and concern of our community, and we believe open communication is crucial in addressing these issues.
Firstly, it is important to recognize the immense dedication of our volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to care for the many animals in our rescue. Our team operates with limited resources and personnel, and it is crucial to understand the strain this places on our ability to accept all animals in need.
Running a rescue facility this large is a substantial financial responsibility. Our mealworm bill itself is almost $10,000 per month during baby season.
While we are grateful for the donations we receive, the reality is that our monthly expenses far exceed what we currently receive in funding. Many may remember our struggles at the end of last year, and while we received encouraging support through those difficulties, it is not enough to sustain us during peak rescue seasons, like the one we’re in now.
In the past week alone, we received an overwhelming 4,363 texts/calls to our hotline, averaging 623 messages per day or 52 per hour. This volume underscores the immense demand placed on our resources and personnel. This does not include the messages that we receive on social media, nor does it include emails that come in.
To ensure we can continue operating effectively and responsibly, we have had to make difficult decisions regarding our intake policies. This includes narrowing our intake radius to prioritize animals in closer proximity to our facility and making strategic decisions about the types of animals we can accommodate.
We understand the frustration and disappointment that may come with these changes, especially for those outside our immediate service area. Please know that every decision we make is rooted in our commitment to providing the best possible care for the animals in our possession and maintaining the long-term sustainability of our rescue efforts. REMINDER 🌼✨ Open Volunteer Project Day this upcoming Saturday May 4 at CWR!!
This is a monthly volunteer day on the first Saturday of each month open to the general public! You do not have to be a regular volunteer to attend. Minimum age is 16 or 14 with parent supervision. You will have to fill out paperwork available at our front desk before you put boots on the ground but once that’s taken care of, you are officially a CWR volunteer!! These monthly project days are great opportunities for you to visit the rescue and donate your time to the animals, but it’s also a great opportunity for us to accomplish some goals. The focus this Saturday will be fencing in a field to allow the birds at the rescue access to greener grazing pasture. 💚
Mark your calendar everybody! Saturday May 4 10 AM - 4 PM at 5403 Poplin Rd. Indian Trail, NC. Close-toed shoes and clothes you can get dirty are a must! 🥾
A picture is worth 1,000 words, right? Some days we’re all out of words. Do you have any words left?
